Welford Bolam

Born in 1890 in Gateshead, he joined the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1914. In 1918, as a Second Lieutenant, he was attached to 2 DLI and won both the Military Cross and Croix de Guerre in May 1918 for his bravery at Dickebusch, when he led his platoon under heavy fire to support a French attack and captured two German machine guns. Welford Bolam died at Newcastle in 1950.
